IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William E.
Brown
May 29, 1935 – November 9, 2025
William E. "Bill" Brown, 90, passed away peacefully at home on November 9, 2025, after an extended illness. He was born May 29, 193,5 in Mt. Gilead, Ohio.
After serving in the U.S. Army, he moved to Punta Gorda, where his family resided. He completed his apprenticeship in carpentry and was then employed by Mackle Brothers (home builders) during the early development of Port Charlotte.
Bill went on to be named Supervisor of Construction for Punta Gorda Isles. He was later transferred to Sugarmill Woods in Homosassa, FL, where he held the same position for many years. He oversaw the construction of numerous homes, condos, and other facilities for both developments. He returned to Punta Gorda and worked independently in construction until his retirement.
Bill loved the outdoor life and was an avid hunter. He spent time in Ohio with his brother Robert, hunting for deer and turkey. He also enjoyed playing golf with family and friends.
While living in Ohio, he and his wife raised and trained Labrador Retrievers. He participated in field trials with his beloved "Black Mac."
He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a friend to many, and a kind and helpful neighbor. He never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sylvia, daughter Pamela Barefoot of South Carolina, sister-in-law Mary Katherine Barrett of Bradenton, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert and Ben, and beloved sister-in-law, Joyce Smith.
A family memorial will be held at a later date.
