Obituary

Susan Emile McDonald, 84, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte, Florida, on Sunday, June 28th. Susan was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, January 7th 1942. Her parents were Richard and Joan Roll of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Susan grew up in Bemidji, Minnesota with her younger sister Sally. The family moved to Florida her Sophomore year of high school and she subsequently graduated from Lake Worth High, in 1960. 

As a young woman, she moved back to Minnesota and became a stewardess for Northwest Airlines. She met and married her first husband, Scott Anderson, in 1963. She met and married her second husband, John McDonald, in 1978. 

Susan is survived by her husband John D. McDonald, her daughter Kimberly (Timothy) Erickson, her Son Jeffrey (Nichole) Anderson, her four grand children, her sister-in-law Susan McDonald, her brother-in-law James McDonald her step daughter Laurie (Robert) Hartman, Her Step Daughter, Lisa (Keith) Gross, her stepdaughter Lezlie O’Brian, her stepdaughter Leann McDonald, her stepson George McDonald, her thirteen step grandchildren, and the two newest members of the family, her great granddaughters Claire Anderson and Mia Erickson. 

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Joan Roll, and her sister Sally Holtkamp, sister-in-laws Arlene Fraiser, sister and brother-in-law Anne (George) Halverson, brother and sister-in-law William (Susan) McDonald. 

Susan’s legacy were her clothing stores. She had a very successful career as a clothing boutique entrepreneur with her first store Summer Daze opening in Nisswa, Minnesota in 1978. She quickly grew the business and opened the Courtyard Boutique in Nisswa as well. Her drive and ambition allowed her to grow the Courtyard Stores into 14 locations in Minnesota and Florida. 

Susan loved boating, spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She has an enormous passion for collection dishes and enjoyed gardening. 

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at Life Celebration Center of Punta Gorda in Florida on July 13th at 11:00 a.m., with a reception following. Officiants will be Jeffrey Anderson, Kimberly Erickson, and pastor/nephew Albert Rossodivita.
