Robert E. Powell, Jr, 89, of North Port, FL, passed away on July 16, 2021. He was born on December 7, 1931, to Robert and Wilma Powell in Williamsport, IN. Robert moved to North Port, FL in 2004 from Williamsport, IN. He worked for Morris-Flamingo Beauty Supply Warehouse for 45 years before retiring.
Bob’s children were one of his greatest joys and he had a special relationship with each of his many grandchildren. Bob enjoyed hunting and watching basketball games and horse racing. One of his favorite stories to tell was how he met Phyllis. She was the love of his life. They enjoyed traveling the world together, doing church activities, and getting together with friends and family. They loved each other’s company, spending endless hours talking side by side. After Phyllis passed, Bob took comfort in reading the letters Phyllis had sent him over the many years they shared. He was endlessly devoted to his wife of 52 years and their marriage was an inspiration to their children and grandchildren. Throughout his life, his strong faith in Jesus was his underlying foundation. Bob spent many hours reading the bible. He was loved by so many and will be remembered fondly.
Robert will be deeply missed by his daughter Teresa Swanson of Portland, OR; stepdaughter Lori (Gary) Grennell of North Port, FL; son Greg (Deb) Powell of Leavenworth, KS; stepsons Robert Henady of North Port, FL and Greg (Terri) Henady of Port Charlotte, FL; brothers Mike ( Carol) Powell of Lafayette, IN and Bruce Powell of West Lebanon, IN; sisters Marion Hughes of Covington, IN, Patsy Sager of Tatonsville, MD and Lynn Allmon of Jacksonville, AR; his 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Powell and his parents Robert and Wilma Powell.
