Robert Dean Buckingham, 78, passed away on May 16, 2026, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home in Arcadia, Florida. Born on September 3, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, Rob’s life was a unique mix of the high-stakes world of global finance, the ruggedness of ranch life, and his lesser-known quiet and humble creative side.
Rob proudly attended Baltimore City College and graduated from Severna Park High School in 1965. Following high school, Rob earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Salisbury State College in 1969. In 1970, Robert was inducted into the United States Army in Annapolis, Maryland. He honorably served on active duty and then continued his service in the United States Army Reserve at Fort Carson, Colorado until receiving his honorable discharge in 1976. Ready to leave behind the long, cold Maryland and Colorado winters, Rob moved to California, where he later earned his Master of Business Administration degree from San Diego State University in 1978.
Rob built a successful career in global finance, which included working for the Summa Corporation, the organization that managed Howard Hughes’ business interests. Later, he served as a Global Financial Analyst for Las Vegas Sands Corporation, which provided opportunities for international travel, including visits to Macau and Singapore.
After many successful years in finance, Rob fulfilled a retirement dream no one suspected by moving to Arcadia, Florida, where he owned and operated a cattle ranch. Open pastures and ranch life brought him immense happiness and peace. He especially loved spending quiet mornings and evenings sitting in his chair overlooking the pasture, watching the cattle graze.
Rob also carried a quiet creative spirit throughout his life. He loved music, storytelling, writing country lyrics and humorous children’s stories…passions he often kept private but deeply cherished.
Rob was married to Dianne Marie and father to Andrew Bruce and Andrea Beth. Andy and Beth filled Rob’s life with love, meaning, and purpose. They were exceptional blessings in his life.
Rob was the first born of Rev. Jack Gordon Buckingham and Catherine Hazel (Ross) Buckingham. Rob was predeceased by his parents, his sister Victoria, and son Andrew.
He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Beth; brother, Lawrence (Margaret); sisters, Patricia (Terry) and Tina (David); granddaughter, Kaylie Marie; and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Rob’s final resting place will be in Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida. A Military Funeral Honors Ceremony will be held on June 5th at 9:30am at Sarasota National Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at Life Celebration Center of Punta Gorda from 11am - 1 pm.
