Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Edward Kane Jr., who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his beloved family, on Monday, October 19, 2026. Born on September 10, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, to Robert and Madelaine Kane, Bob lived a life defined by strength, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to his family, his community, and serving others.

A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, Bob went on to enjoy a courageous, rewarding, and distinguished 37-year career with the Chicago Police Department. Throughout his remarkable years of service, he embraced the challenges and rewards of law enforcement, taking great pride in protecting his community, serving others, and building lasting friendships and bonds along the way. His career was not simply a profession, but a meaningful chapter of his life that reflected his character, dedication, and genuine commitment to others.

In 1964, Bob married his first wife, Linda, and together they began a family. Life brought Bob love once again when he married Jamie in August 1984. For more than 42 years, they shared a beautiful life built on enduring love, unwavering devotion, and a deep commitment to family. Together, they created a lifetime of laughter, treasured experiences, and memories that will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved them.

In 2012, Bob and Jamie began a new chapter together, moving to Punta Gorda, Florida, where Bob embraced the sunshine, the outdoors, and a more relaxed lifestyle. An avid golfer, he could often be found on the course at least three times a week, enjoying the game and sharing laughter and camaraderie with friends. A lifelong Chicago sports fan, Bob remained devoted to the Cubs and Bears, finding joy in cheering on his favorite teams and sharing those moments with family. Whether on the golf course or gathered with loved ones over a game, it was the friendships, laughter, and time spent together that made these moments so special and will be fondly remembered.

Bob's family was his pride and joy; he leaves behind his loving wife, Jamie Kane (CPD), children: Patricia (Neal) Kane, Karen Kane, Maureen (Bill) Kane, Kathleen (Bob) Adams, Elizabeth (Dave) Kane, and Robert (Nicole) Kane III (CPD). Bob will be remembered fondly by his grandchildren Michael Adams, Tanya (Ryan) Jones, Kristine (CJ) Falls, Stacy (Jose) Ciesla, Shana (Joey) Thalhammer, Matthew (Stephanie) Chomiczewski, Kevin (Marie) Falls, Stephanie (Tyler) Ciesla, Daniel (Sarah) Stressler, Joshua Chomiczewski, Edwin (Lisa) Ciesla, Ryan (Megan) Wildenberg, Madeline Kane, and Aiden Kane, as well as his great-grandchildren Madison, Kailyn, Jason, Taylor, Logan, Evan, Lochlan, Hayes, Charlotte, and Lucia.

In addition to his cherished family, Bob is survived by siblings James Kane, Dan (Julie) Kane, and Margaret (Dan) Fink, along with brothers-in-law Thomas Garrity (CPD) and Robert Gaddi and sister-in-law Paula (Todd) Gilmore. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Linda, and siblings, Marilyn Garrity, Kathleen Gaddi, Patricia Schiro, Donald Kane, and Richard Kane.

Bob's family wishes to extend an invitation to friends and loved ones to gather together in remembrance of his life. Visitation will take place on Friday, November 13, 2026, from 3:00-9:00 PM at Schielka Addison Street Funeral Home, located at 7710 W Addison St, Chicago, IL. St. Jude will meet at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at St. Celestine Catholic Church, located at 3020 N. 76th Ct., Elmwood Park, IL. Following the mass, inurnment will occur at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, 700 N. River Rd, Des Plaines, IL. A luncheon will follow at the Des Plaines Golf Center, Club Casa Cafe, 353 N. River Rd, where we will share stories and celebrate all that Bob meant to us.

As we remember Bob, may we cherish not only his years of service and the many lives he touched, but also the warmth of his heart, his kindness, and the genuine care he showed to others. His presence, the memories he created, and the love he shared will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew him.
