Obituary

Richard Louis Vercruysse, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated educational administrator, entered eternal rest on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the age of 90 in Port Charlotte, FL. Richard, a proud native of New York City, NY, dedicated his life to serving others through education and community involvement. Born on October 16, 1935, to Louis and Margaret Vercruysse, Richard lived a life defined by dedication, leadership, and service. He proudly served in the United States Army, demonstrating the same commitment and integrity that would guide him throughout his life. After his military service, Richard earned a Master's Degree and devoted his career to education, becoming a highly respected educational administrator. His outstanding contributions were recognized when he was named New York State Administrator of the Year, an honor reflecting his lasting impact on students, educators, and the communities he served. Richard found great fulfillment in helping others learn, grow, and succeed, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire.

On September 5, 1956, Richard united in marriage to Ellen in Aschaffenburg, Germany; their union was filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect. Together, they raised four children: Heidi Beaudine, Peter, Mark, and Tim Vercruysse, who will forever remember their father for his unwavering support and guidance. He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Kyle, Justin, Connor, Nicolas, Amanda Vercruysse, and Kimberly Roberto.

Richard was not only devoted to his family and career but also to his passions. He loved spending time on the water, whether it was boating or fishing, and had a deep appreciation for horticulture. An active member of his community, he found joy in attending church and singing in the choir, where his warm spirit and rich voice touched the lives of many.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen Vercruysse; his children Heidi, Peter, Mark, and Tim; his grandchildren; and siblings, Donald Vercruysse and Susan Hynes.

Richard now joins his cherished parents and grandparents in eternal rest.

As family and friends gather to honor Richard's life, we encourage all who knew him to reflect on the lasting impact he made through his service, leadership, and genuine care for others. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the values he embodied will remain in the hearts of those who loved him for years to come.
