Philip Colin Luoma, age 73, resident of Punta Gorda, Fl, previously of Gwinn, MI passed away peacefully at Advent Health in Port Charlotte, Florida on October 27, 2025, with his loving wife Chris at his side.
Born in Ishpeming, MI on October 3, 1952, to the late Arne and Grace Luoma, Phil grew up in Negaunee and attended school there and graduated in 1970. After high school, Phil enlisted in the National Guard where he served for 20 years. During this time, he also became employed at CCI where he worked his way up to a Pit boss. In 2004, after 30 years, he retired. He was a member of the Negaunee Eagles Club, serving as a past president. After retirement, Phil worked various trucking jobs for the next 10 years and eventually started his own business. One of his greatest achievements was teaching his son Dustin to drive truck and obtain his CDL, eventually turning over the business to him.
On August 8, 1981, he married Christal Maki of Green Bay where they started their lives together in Ishpeming, MI, eventually moving to Gwinn, MI in 1990. After retirement, Phil and Chris spent the winters in Florida and returned to Gwinn during the summers to spend time with their children and grandchildren eventually becoming permanent residents of Punta Gorda.
Phil spent his free time renovating his homes and took great pride in taking care of his lawn. He enjoyed watching FOX news, westerns and war movies. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Phil spent many hunting seasons with his brothers, sons and nephews at deer camp. Above all, Phil took great pride in making sure his family was always taken care of and lending a helping hand to others.
Phil is survived by his wife Chris of 44 years; his sons Marcus, Michael and Dustin (Jamie) Luoma; his only daughter Holly Luoma; grandchildren Michael, Xander, Autumn and Trenton Luoma; step grandchildren Dixie, Katilyn, Natalie and Austin; brothers James (Megs) Collins, Bruce (Mary) Collins and Steve Luoma; sisters-in-law Cheryl (Bill) Holton and Candace (Patrick Boomer) Herman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law George Maki; siblings Glenora Lehtinen, Charles Collins, Mary Johnson, Robert Collins, Barbara VanSickle, Sharon Eckloff; and his beloved son Troy Luoma.
Private services will be held in Gwinn, MI.
