Peter Colin McGregor, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on November 25, 1943, in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, Peter immigrated to the United States at the age of five with his parents, James and Dorice McGregor. The family made their home in Ada, Minnesota, where they operated Glencarnock Stock Farm and became well known for raising champion Aberdeen Angus cattle.
Peter graduated from Ada High School in 1961 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Dakota in 1966. At age 17, he experienced a life-changing motorcycle accident that resulted in the loss of his right leg. Despite this challenge, Peter never allowed it to slow him down. His determination, resilience, and optimistic spirit shaped a full, active, and accomplished life.
On November 23, 1962, Peter married the love of his life, Marilyn, at Tower City Lutheran Church in Tower City, North Dakota. Together, they built a family grounded in love, faith, and laughter.
Peter’s professional life was marked by dedication and excellence. He worked for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Pfizer Laboratories, and Hoffman-LaRoche Pharmaceuticals. During his career, he received the prestigious President’s Achievement Award with Roche Laboratories, recognizing his hard work, leadership, and commitment to improving the lives of others.
Outside of his career, Peter found his greatest joy in the outdoors. An avid angler and outdoorsman, he earned the honor of Grand Master Angler with the PGI Fishing Club. He loved fishing, hunting, and especially teaching children—particularly his own family—to fish and appreciate the natural world.
Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marilyn; his children Heather (Patrick) Shaw and Bryan (Kindra) McGregor; his grandchildren Haley and Alex Shaw; and his great-grandchildren Victor, Olivia, and Violet. He is also survived by his brothers James and Robin, and his sister Nancy. He was preceded in death by their son, Dirk.
Peter will be remembered for his resilience, kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the memories he created, and the example he set of strength, love, and perseverance.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 7, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Life Celebration Center of Punta Gorda, 1515 Tamiami Trl, Punta Gorda, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Amputee Coalition of America, a cause deeply meaningful to Peter’s life and spirit. https://amputee-coalition.org/
