Noreen T. Darlington,94, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, August 16, 2025, in Punta Gorda Isles, Florida.
Born in Niagara Falls, New York, on October 2, 1930, to Charles and Mary Walker Young, she was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.
A member of the class of 1948 at St Mary's High School in Niagara Falls, she went on to work at Acheson Graphite Co., which later became National Carbon Co., where she met her future husband, Jack Darlington. They married in 1958 and moved twice before settling in Ridgefield, Connecticut, in 1967, where they raised their four children.
During her time in Ridgefield, Noreen was involved with the Boy Scouts, she was an excellent bowler and she volunteered in the recovery room at Danbury Hospital. While Jack was manager of the Community Center Little League team from 1970-1985, Noreen attended every game, cheering on the team or working the concession stand. In 1978, Noreen and her husband were co-Presidents of the PTSA at Ridgefield High. Together with staff and sponsors put on the first musical at the school, a successful endeavor that built school spirit to a higher level and provided a positive outlet for high school students.
During the 1980s, until she moved to Florida, "Mrs. D" as she was affectionately called, worked part-time at the Village Bank drive-up. In 1994, Noreen made the move to the sun and beauty of Punta Gorda.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, her brothers Joseph, Wilfred, and Jerome, and sisters Dorothea, Audrey, and Frances, her son-in-law Stephen Lenhardt, and granddaughter Jamie Lynne Williams.
Survivors are her children: Robert James(Julie) of Saddlebrooke, AZ, William Charles of Punta Gorda, who lovingly cared for her the last six years of her life, Jane Marie Williams(Mark) of Lewes, DE, and Lynne Ann Lenhardt of Kingston, MA. Noreen was a proud grandmother to Jack Darlington(Jennifer), Emma Munsch(Kevin), Samantha Anderson(Steven), Jack Williams (Danielle), Stephanie Novak(Adam), Michael Williams, Zachary Lenhardt, and Matthew Williams. She was a great-grandmother to Katherine, Kinsley, and John Munsch, Emory and Jack Williams, Riley Anderson, and James Darlington.
She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Helen Darlington and June Nichols, and brother-in-law James Darlington, and several nieces and nephews.
Noreen will be remembered for her sense of humor, her fun spirit, and her beautiful singing. She enjoyed a long life with family and friends. Her favorite things were Red Sox games, St. Patrick's Day, Soap Operas, Law&Order, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and Chardonnay.
Noreen's loss is deeply felt by her immense family and all those who knew and loved her.
She is now at peace, reunited with those she loved: her husband Jack and lifelong friends Rosemary, Helen, Joan, and Martha.
Internment will take place at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Ridgefield, Connecticut.
