Celebration of Life
Harbor Heights Civic Center and Park
12:00 - 4:00 pm (Eastern time)
Muriel Eileen Storey (née King, formerly Lokker), age 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, January 27, 2026, in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Muriel was born on September 26, 1944, in Paterson, New Jersey, to Walter Willard King and Johanna Van Wyngarden. She was raised in New Jersey, where she began building the strength, independence, and resilience that would define her life.
Muriel attended trade school for cosmetology before dedicating her life to raising her family. A strong and determined woman, she independently raised three rambunctious boys, instilling in them values of hard work, perseverance, and family loyalty. In 1974, Muriel moved to Harbour Heights, Florida, where she put down deep roots, raised her family, and became part of a close-knit community she lovingly referred to as her village.
She worked for many years at Smitty's Restaurant and later at the Publix Bakery, from which she retired in 2003. Muriel lived in Harbour Heights and Port Charlotte, Florida, as well as Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, throughout her life.
Muriel later married Frank Storey, with whom she shared a joyful retirement in Port Charlotte. Together, they enjoyed going to the beach, snorkeling, and watching the sunset. These were simple pleasures that brought them great happiness.
Muriel found her greatest joy in caring for others. She loved cooking and baking and cherished time spent surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Muriel is survived by her sons, Wayne (Nancy) Lokker, Vincent (Karen) Lokker, and Brian Lokker; her grandchildren, Carolanne (Jesse) Hornbake, Erik Lokker, Kaylee (Michael) Miller, Amy (Joshua) Roman, Breanne (Rory) Tardif, Crystal (Alan) Fitch, and Kyle (Mel) Alonzo; her great-grandchildren, Mya, Remianne, Juliette, Callan, Addison, Ander, Oliver, and Felicity; her brother, Ron King; and Sylvia (Ben) Carrington.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Storey.
Muriel will be remembered for her strength, her devotion to family, her generous heart, and the lasting legacy she leaves through those who loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00-4:00 pm on February 28, 2026, at the Harbour Heights Event Center, 2530 Harbour Drive, Punta Gorda, FL, 33983.
