Obituary

Linda Jean Oliver, née Vaughan, age 79, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, under the compassionate care of Fort Myers Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Hope Hospice.

Linda was born on January 4, 1947, on the Naval Base in Patuxent River, Maryland, to Gene Ervin Vaughan and Barbara Jean Vaughan, née Banta, both of whom preceded her in death. She spent her childhood in Indiana, where she attended and graduated from Greenwood High School, building the foundation for a life centered on family, friendships, and service to others.

On September 4, 1970, Linda married Charles Douglas Oliver in Hollywood, Florida. Together they raised their two children in South Florida before later retiring to Port Charlotte, Florida. Linda adored her grandchildren, and being close to them was a significant reason the family chose to retire to Port Charlotte, allowing her to spend as much time with them as possible. Charles preceded Linda in death.

Linda is survived by her daughter, Dawn Oliver, and granddaughter Amanda Russell, her son, Doug Oliver, his wife Regina Oliver, and his children, Hannah Oliver and Mitchell Oliver. She is also survived by her siblings, Steve Vaughan, Cathy Hof, and Kim Platzer, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Linda earned her professional designation as a Medical Assistant from Broward Community College and dedicated her entire career to the medical field in South Florida. She was deeply committed to caring for others and was respected for her compassion and professionalism.

Linda loved to dance, laugh, and entertain, and she brought joy wherever she went. She was especially known for her amazing homemade cakes, which she lovingly baked for friends and special occasions. An exceptional host, Linda had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and for turning even the simplest gathering into a warm, joyful, and memorable experience.

A Celebration of Life honoring Linda’s life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM, at Heritage Oak Park Clubhouse, 19520 Heritage Oak Blvd., Port Charlotte, Florida.

Linda’s faith was a source of comfort throughout her life. The family finds strength in the words of Scripture:

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”Proverbs 3:5–6
