Emblem

November 10, 1942 - May 6, 2025

Henry McDonald passed away peacefully at home on May 6, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on November 10, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio, Henry lived a full and vibrant life defined by love, laughter, and friendship.

A proud Navy veteran, Henry served as a sonar technician aboard the USS Cromwell. After his military service, he built a long and respected career as both an electrician and plumber. He married the love of his life, Sue, in 2001, and together they built a life filled with laughter, companionship, and mutual devotion. He retired to his beloved Florida with Sue, where they spent more than 15 years enjoying life to the fullest.

Henry is survived by his loving daughters, Tricia Costas and Jodi Williams; his cherished grandchildren, Cassandra and Jacob Williams, and Alexis and Gregory Costas; his sisters Dorothy Smith and Becky DiFrancesco; his brother Rick McDonald (C. Michael Brill); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death his beloved wife Sue McDonald, his father Richard McDonald, mother Virginia Dohman, and his brother David McDonald.

Henry was a devoted family man who always showed up for the people he loved. His daughters and grandchildren will never forget his heartfelt birthday calls, sung in his signature baritone, or his endless collection of "Henryisms," like "No matter where you go, there you are," and "Shit in one hand, wish in the other and see which one fills up faster."

He was a joyful presence-always up for a party, a game of darts or pool, or dancing at the Moose Lodge or Amvets with the many friends he made in Florida. He loved to fish, creating lasting memories with his children and grandchildren out on the water. A playful prankster and a loyal friend, Henry never met a stranger and never hesitated to lend a hand.

Henry will be remembered as a loving father, proud grandfather, caring brother, and loyal friend. His kindness, humor, and unwavering support will be missed deeply by all who had the privilege to know him.

A celebration of Henry's and Sue's life will be held at the Gulf Coast Moose Lodge (little Moose), Englewood, FL, June 14, 2025 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to any homeless shelter of your choice.
