Harold Edward Twente, a beloved son, father, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on July 28, 2026, in Punta Gorda, Florida, at the age of 92. Born on November 19, 1933, in Olive Branch, Illinois, Harold’s life was a testament to hard work, resilience, and a deep love for his family and friends.
Growing up in a humble home without electricity or running water, Harold learned the value of hard work and self-sufficiency. He spent his childhood helping his parents on their farm, where he not only grew vegetables and raised livestock but also cultivated a spirit of community by trading farm goods with the locals. After graduating from Tamms Community High School in 1951, Harold dedicated himself to a life of service in the automotive industry, notably as a skilled automotive paint and repair technician at Marlow-Werner Pontiac Buick. His love for innovation was evident. He opened his own shop, Country Body Shop, in 1978—where he would continue to create and repair with a skillful hand until the end of his days.
Harold was a lifelong member of the Moose Lodge 1693 and a Master Mason of Punta Gorda Lodge 115, where he built lasting friendships and shared many meaningful moments. His passions extended beyond his work; he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying air boating, hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a cherished member of Camp “Buck Island”on the Miccosukee Indian Reservation, where he formed lasting bonds with fellow campers. His creative spirit shone through in his love for building and fabricating, as well as in his musical talents, playing the guitar and banjo, always ready to gather friends for a little “picking and grinning.”
Harold is survived by his son, Chuck Sanson (June) from Paducah, KY, and his lifelong friend John Briggs (Theresa), whom he considered a son. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Viola Twente, and his dear sister, Shirley Irene Toolan. Harold was married four times, with all of his beloved partners having preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Harold's life will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Life Celebration Center of Punta Gorda. Family and friends are invited to gather at 2:00 PM, with a celebration of his life starting at 3:00 PM. A private graveside burial of his ashes will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Harold's name to Tidewell Hospice, a gesture he would have appreciated.
As Harold would always greet people with a friendly, “Whatcha building?”, his spirit of warmth and creativity will forever live on in our hearts. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the life he lived and the love he shared.
