George Kretschman, 84, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away Feb. 1, 2018. He was born Mar. 2, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Farmingdale AT&T. George served in the US Navy and went to flight training and received his commission and Wings. He was stationed in Trinidad, Panama Canal Zone and Bermuda; also assigned to a search and rescue squad flying Seaplanes. After the service he worked as an Air Traffic Controller in Virginia, New Jersey, Jacksonville and Miami, FL. He became a computer programmer and retired from FAA in 1990 and moved to Port Charlotte. He was a PER of Deep Creek Elks Lodge #2763 and life member and PER of Punta Gorda Lodge #2606, he was also a Mason. George kept busy woodcarving, fishing, woodworking and spending hours at his computer. He will be greatly missed by his wife and high school sweetheart, Ethel; children, Linda Sue (William) Paul, Chris (Robin) Kretschman and Eric (Tracy) Kretschman; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Edith Filosa and several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his daughters, Katherine Ruth and Karyn Leigh. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 5, 2018 at Punta Gorda Elks Lodge #2606, 25538 Shore Drive, Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
