Fred Ernest Eskuri, 91, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, at the Douglas T. Jacobson Veterans Nursing Home, with his son, John, and daughter-in-law, Deb, by his side. He lived a life marked by dedication, passion, and the spirit of adventure.

Born on November 15, 1933, Fred will forever be cherished as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His journey began in the heart of Minnesota, where he was raised on a family farm by Otto and Signe Eskuri (Heiskari). Fred demonstrated an early commitment to service, enlisting in the United States Army from April 9, 1951, to March 27, 1954. Honorably serving as a Corporal in the Military Police, he trained soldiers preparing for the Korean War in Hawaii, leaving an indelible mark on his life. After completing his service at the age of 20, he transitioned into a successful career in the auto sales industry, first working in the printing business before opening his own car dealership in Tower, Minnesota. A natural salesman with a sharp mind for every make and model, he managed multiple dealerships over the years, including a notable Ford dealership in Ashland, Wisconsin, and later retiring from Metro Chrysler in Duluth, Minnesota. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence earned him widespread recognition.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Fred was a man of diverse interests. He cherished fishing trips to Lake Mille Lacs and Lake Vermillion, as well as memorable excursions to the remote Arctic Lodge in northern Manitoba, where he enjoyed the beauty of nature with friends. A passionate motorsports enthusiast, Fred encouraged his sons' participation in motorbike racing and served as the chairman of the St. Paul to Winnipeg Snowmobile Race. A self-taught aviator, he nurtured his dream of flying, owning four airplanes throughout his lifetime and inspiring both his son and grandson to take to the skies.

Fred shared a loving partnership with his wife, Ruth, whom he met at church. Together, they adventured to the Midwest in their motorhome collecting cherished memories with each visit to family and friends. A devoted dog lover, his heart was also warmed by the companionship of his loyal dog, Susie, who remained by his side for 15 cherished years.

He is lovingly remembered by his son John Eskuri (Deb); his treasured grandsons, Matthew and Ryan; his loving wife Ruth Eskuri; and her children Steve, Scott, and Suzanne Whiting. He will be missed dearly by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who knew him for his humor, warmth, and incredible storytelling.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Jean, his son Mark, his parents Otto and Signe, and all of his siblings: Otto Jr., William (Bill), Oscar, Paul, Walter, Donald, Aillie, Helmi, Hannah, Helen, and Lempi.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's memory to a local veterans' organization or animal rescue of your choice.

Fred will be laid to rest with military honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minnesota on August 20, 2025.

Fred lived a full and fearless life, grounded in service, family, adventure, and a love of the open road-and sky.
