It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eugenia Jeffries Baile (often affectionately known as Jean). Jean was born on October 7, 1940, in New York, New York, the firstborn child of Michael and Dorothy Fabish. She died on July 4, 2026, in Derry, Ireland, while vacationing with her best friend, Constance Robison. She is predeceased by her father, Michael Fabish, her mother, Dorothy, stepfather, Charles Gelfo, and brother Michael. Jean was a devoted wife to her husband, Donald, son Kirk (Lin), grandson Daniel, sisters, Diane (Jack) and Jill (Greg), her first husband, James Jeffries, and friends both human and furry, too countless to number. Jean spent her primary years living in NY and Minnesota. At the age of 9, she moved to Miami, where she graduated from Coral Gables High School and attended the University of Miami. A career promotion landed her in Basking Ridge, N.J. and later to New Providence, N.J where she met the love of her life, Detective Donald Baile. Upon their retirement, they found their “forever” home in Punta Gorda.

Jean had a very inquisitive mind, fostered a lifelong pursuit of knowledge, often found with a book in her hand. She began her career as a telephone operator, continued with positions at AT&T, Lucent Technology, and H&R Block, where she touched the lives of many through her dedication, work ethic, and caring nature.  After retirement, she dedicated her time to others through volunteer work at St. Vincent de Paul, cooking for veterans at Veterans Village, knitting blankets ( aka “woobies”) for family and friends, and quilting baby blankets for anyone she knew having a baby. 

Outside of her professional life, Jean was a voracious reader and enjoyed the intellectual challenge of crossword puzzles. She was an excellent seamstress and made most of her clothes until she began working. She loved to indulge in rounds of golf or playing cards at the casino, and she was an enthusiastic supporter of the Miami Dolphins, exemplifying her spirited nature. Her passions, charities, and ministries extended far beyond the Punta Gorda zip code. 

The extraordinary example of her faith, commitment to others, and the memories she created with family and friends is her legacy. She will be forever held in our hearts. 

Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating Jean’s life during a Gathering of Family & Friends at the Life Celebration Center of Punta Gorda on August 5, 2026, at 4:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on August 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM. These gatherings will be an opportunity to say a prayer, share stories, honor her legacy, and find solace together. 

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jean's name to St. Vincent De Paul, the  Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County, and the Veterans Village of Charlotte County, allowing her spirit of generosity to continue making a difference.
