Emma Volk, affectionately known as Mother Bear, Grandma or Oma, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, at the age of 92 in her home at Brookdale Senior Living in Punta Gorda, FL.
Born on February 1, 1933, in Jamaica, Queens, New York, Emma married the love of her life, Bob, in 1951. Together they welcomed three sons - Robert, William, and Edward - and raised their family on Long Island, NY. In 1967, they founded Active Door and Window, which became a well-known and trusted business in the community for over 40 years. In the late 1980's, Emma and Bob relocated to Punta Gorda, Florida, where they opened another Active Door and Window in 1992. Today, the business proudly remains in the family and is operated by the third generation of Volks. Emma and Bob loved to socialize, go on the boat, and dance. They were active members of the Stony Brook Yacht Club during their years on Long Island, and later the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club after moving to Florida.
Emma is survived by her three sons and daughters in law - Robert & Marsha, William & Gail, and Edward & Rita; her 8 grandchildren - Carol, Bobby, Kerrin, Jillian, Shannon, Eddie, Matthew and Christine, and her 12 great grandchildren - Alexa, Bobby, Olivia, Ella, Lilah, Kit, Leo, Quinn, Audrey, Brody, Caitlyn and Cameron. She is also survived by her brother, Rudy. Emma is preceded in death by her husband, Bob, parents - Sophie and Rudy, and her brother, Bill.
Emma was known for her love of family, music, and church. She was a true caretaker by nature - always ready to lend a hand, offer a kind word, or prepare a warm meal. She was known for her delicious mashed potatoes, homemade German butter cookies, and oatmeal cookies, which she made with love and shared freely with family and friends. She cherished every moment with her family and was known to get a "seed in her eye" when it was time to say goodbye.
A woman of deep religious conviction, Emma was devoted to her church at Murdock Baptist before participating in services provided at Brookdale. Her love of music, especially playing the organ, was a cherished part of both her faith and family life.
Emma's love lives on in our memories, our stories, and the way we care for one another.
