Donald Wayne Kregel entered heaven to meet his life-long Lord and Savior at the age of 95 on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at his home in Port Charlotte, FL. He was loved, known, and respected by many.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie who together just recently celebrated 66 years of marriage; daughter Julie (Mark) Stuart, son Jerry (Wendy) Kregel, daughter Michele (Dan) Botts, and son Scott (Amy) Kregel; 12 grandchildren with 9 spouses; 14 great grandchildren and four more on the way; and many, many nieces and nephews.

He was born in 1931, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and loved and called the Grand Rapids area home until he and Bonnie retired to Southwest Florida 30 years ago.

He proudly served in the US Navy, and had a distinguished career as a CPA, including as a partner in three accounting firms. After a career in accounting, it is interesting to note that he passed away on a rather significant tax due date.

In addition to attending Grand Rapids Junior College, Wheaton College, and Davenport College, he earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Michigan. Anybody that knew him knew that he was an avid University of Michigan sports fan, and as a long-time season ticket holder, he attended many, many football games at the Big House over the years. His kids and grandkids have caught the vision as well and enthusiastically root for his alma mater, including those that don’t even live in the state of Michigan. Over the years, he accumulated more University of Michigan t-shirts, hats, and various paraphernalia including a decked-out Michigan golf cart, than anybody can imagine, and he loved every bit of it.

His parents Louis and Lena Kregel were founding members of Calvary Undenominational Church in Grand Rapids, and Don faithfully attended and served there as a member throughout his life until retiring to Florida, including serving many years on their elder and deacon boards.

There will be a celebration of life service at the Life Celebration Center of Punta Gorda, 1515 S. Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 3.
