In Loving Memory of Diane Ann Drake-Smith

Diane Ann Drake-Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great aunt, and friend to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2026, in Punta Gorda, Florida. She was the loving daughter of Rose and Lawrence Marinello.

Diane’s journey began in 1943 in Brooklyn, New York, where she was born. Her family later moved to Roosevelt, New York, where she grew up, completed high school, and met the love of her life and future husband, James Drake. In her later years, she found comfort and community in the sunny coastal warmth of Punta Gorda, Florida.

Throughout her life, Diane brought her characteristic warmth and dedication to a diverse and meaningful career. She touched the lives of countless students as a librarian at Major Edwards Middle School for the West Boylston, Massachusetts school district, and later served her community as an administrator for the Worcester County Registry of Deeds in Worcester, Massachusetts. However, her most beloved role was working as a jewelry consultant and salesperson for Helzberg Diamonds in Exton, Pennsylvania. There, her natural ability to connect with people shone brightest as she helped clients celebrate their life's most precious milestones.

Diane was a vibrant soul who truly knew how to embrace the beauty of life. She had a passion for traveling and exploring the world, but her greatest talent was her ability to make friends wherever she went. With an infectious sense of humor and a generous spirit, she dedicated herself to making people laugh and ensuring that those around her were enjoying life just as much as she was.

Diane’s legacy of love, laughter, and warmth lives on through her devoted family. She is survived by her son Michael J. Drake and daughter-in-law Shelley with grandchildren Rachel S. Drake and Brandon C. Drake; her great granddaughter Moriah Rose; her son Scott E. Drake and daughter-in-law Kristen; her elder sister Marie Theresa Schneider and brother-in-law Edward; her younger sister Lorraine Miller, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Diane’s bright presence will be deeply missed, but her family takes comfort in knowing that her joy for life will remain a guiding light in their hearts forever.

Details regarding a memorial service will be shared by the family at a later date.
