Claudia Elizabeth (Gilkey) Richardson, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, at the age of 79. Known for her infectious laughter and sense of humor, she left a void that will be impossible to fill, but a legacy of joy and service that will last forever.
Born in Norfolk, Virginia to Mary Gladys (Hayes) Gilkey and Joseph Edward Gilkey, Claudia always found a way to make those around her smile. She had a knack for finding (or creating), humor in every situation. Claudia carried a spirit of unwavering kindness and generosity throughout her life, dedicating herself to a life of service and touching countless lives in her community and her church.
Claudia was an active member of Peace River Baptist Church and faith was central to her life. Her church was like family to her. She volunteered her time and energy to countless church activities, including singing in the choir; preparing and serving holiday meals; and creating, filling, and wrapping holiday gift boxes for those less fortunate than her.
Her commitment to service extended far beyond the church walls. Claudia was always there to lend a hand to her community when needed. She had an innate ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. She was one of the first people called to service during times of emergency, where she helped facilitate communications. She regularly dedicated her time to the library, community gardens, and various neighborhood groups and organizations. She found immense joy in giving back and made a profound impact on the lives of many through her generosity, selflessness, and kindness.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bradford Durham Richardson; daughter, Tracy Lynn Richardson; son, Bradford Kyle Richardson; and sister, Rebecca Ann (Weber) McDonald. She is survived by her loving daughter, Lisa Ann (Richardson) Plante; her cherished grandchildren, Anna Minami Richardson, Bradford Zen Richardson, Mackenzie Grace Plante; her adoring sister, Laurie Gail (Gilkey) Johnson; and a wide circle of friends who loved her dearly. We will always remember her for her quick wit, generous spirit, and the warmth she brought to everyone she met.
A celebration of her remarkable life will be held at Peace River Baptist Church on October 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. All who wish to celebrate her memory and share their favorite stories are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Peace River Baptist Church. https://www.peaceriverbaptistfl.org/
Claudia's legacy of service and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be profoundly missed, but her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched.
