Carlene Fairnette Dailey was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on September 14, 1961. She later had a brother, Garland O'Brien Dailey, who was 13 years younger than her, had severe cerebral palsy, and died at age seven. Her mother Bettie Dailey worked for the telephone company and retired after about 30 years.
Carlene was educated in the Indianapolis public school system, attending Arsenal Technical High School and later Broad Ripple High School. She later received training in the culinary arts and became a chef, working at Gainbridge Fieldhouse/ home of the NBA Indiana Pacers and the WNBA Indiana Fever.
In about 1995, she met and fell in love with Denise Throgmartin. They moved to Florida and lived in various cities before buying a home in Punta Gorda, Florida, where they became life partners.
Carlene was always strong and healthy, although she was shorter than most of her peers. She had no medical problems until about a month before her death. She passed away peacefully in her bed on July 26, 2025.
A memorial service will be held at the Life Celebration Center of Punta Gorda on September 20, 2025, at 4:00 pm. Her ashes will be dispersed at sea according to her wishes.
Carlene was preceded in death by her grandparents, John Porter and Clara Dailey, her aunt Mildred Thornton, her uncles Syid Muhammad, Larry Dailey, and Leon Dailey. She leaves to mourn her mother, Bettie Dailey, her life partner Denice Throgmartin, her aunts Olivia Bailey and Flesia Dailey, and uncles Frank Dailey and Ahmad Salih, and cousins Watonda Hayes, Syid II, Sadirah, and Sheelah Muhammad. She also leaves cousins Marques Dailey, Kanneatra Dailey, and Sina Dailey, and a host of family and friends.
The family wishes to thank all of those who shared their condolences and messages of sympathy.
