God has received Barbara Hammami into his arms and into her next life on July 23, 2007. She passed away at home in Punta Gorda, Florida, after a valiant fight with cancer. She was surrounded by the love and caring of her family and friends from far and near. Barbara is survived by her loving husband Hasan of Punta Gorda; her daughters and sons in law Fawzia and Myles of Perigord, France; Rema and Alex of East Jerusalem, Palestine; and Haifa and Niels of London, England; and grand-daughters Leila of Cambridge, Mass.; and Yasmina of London, England; and great grand-daughter Maya of Panama, Republic of Panama. Barbara was born in West Bridgford, Nottingham, England on October 12, 1938. She was the beloved daughter of Ann and Harry Leslie Paulson, and sister of William, Jennifer, and Wendy Paulson. She graduated from Clarendon College in Nottingham. She joked that, as a child during World War II, Nazi German bombers only scared her but could not hurt her. She met her husband, Hasan in 1955 in the Mikado Café in Nottingham, where University Students met. It was love at first sight. They got married a year later, and moved out of Nottingham, England three years after that. She went on to live in Beirut, Lebanon; Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; Malines, Ohain and Waterloo, Belgium; Baghdad, Iraq; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; West Bridgford, and Darras Hall, England; Heidelberg, Germany; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Punta Gorda, Florida. Her extended family spreads from France to Palestine, England, Scotland, Jordan, Canada, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Lebanon, Belgium, Austria, Turkey, Panama, and the USA. Her family extend their gratitude to the friends from all corners of the world who have sent her messages of support, expressing fondness for her warmth, smiles for her wit and added heartbeats for her big heart. A funeral service will be held at the Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services on Thursday, July 26, at 3:00 pm at 1515 Tamiami Trail in Punta Gorda. Memorial Contributions would be welcome to any of the following charities: Tidewell Hospice, 1144 Veronica St. Port Charlotte FL 33952. The Islamic Community of SW Florida, 25148 Harborview Blvd, Port Charlotte FL 33980. The Charlotte Community Foundation, 1675 West Marion Ave, Suite 111, Punta Gorda, FL 33950 (scholarships). Barbara, beloved by everyone who knew her, has left us but her memory will give us solace.
