Obituary

Arlene Joyce (Sonnenberg) Stewart, 97, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, entered eternal rest on August 10, 2026. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose warmth, humor, and loving spirit touched so many lives. Her presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Born on March 14, 1929, Arlene spent her childhood in North Prairie, Wisconsin. Family stories fondly remember her climbing the “BIG” hill to school—both ways! She was determined, funny, and spirited from an early age, qualities that stayed with her throughout her life.

Arlene met the love of her life, Bob, at the roller rink in Oconomowoc, where he was the bouncer all the girls wanted to date. Arlene won his heart, and together they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage. They built a loving family that Arlene guided with strength, devotion, and unconditional love.

Arlene and Bob also enjoyed many wonderful years camping with family and friends at Nature’s Villa, creating countless memories that will be treasured for generations. And no one who knew Arlene will ever forget her famous chocolate chip cookies!

Arlene had a heart for helping others and gave countless hours volunteering at the HOPE Center, where she loved taking care of “her people.” She found joy in making others feel welcomed, cared for, and loved. She also had a fun-loving side that everyone knew well, including her unwavering love for “her boy,” Brett Favre. Whether cheering him on or defending him, Arlene was always proud to be his fan.

Arlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert; her parents, Erwin and Marguerite (Schmear) Sonnenberg; and her brothers, Ervin and Richard Sonnenberg.

She is survived by her daughter, Susie (Billy) Hendricks; her sons, Mike (Diane), Dave (MariJo), and Paul (Sue); her grandchildren, Lindsey, Ryan, Justin, Becky, Kyle, Jake, Hannah, and Josh; and her great-grandchildren, Zack, Cam, Ben, Eva, Syan, Briya, Hunter, Sawyer, Taylor, Mason, and Teddy.

Arlene’s greatest legacy is the love she gave her family and everyone she welcomed into her life. Her strength, laughter, kindness, generosity, humor, and the memories she created with those she loved will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A celebration of Arlene’s life will be held at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2016 Center Road, Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with the service beginning at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Arlene’s memory to the HOPE Center or Christ the Servant Lutheran Church.

Forever loved, forever missed, and forever a part of our family.
