Andrew J. Parker

Andrew “Andy” James Parker died in Port Charlotte on Saturday, February 10, after a brief illness. He was born in Reedsville, PA on November 6, 1911. Andy graduated from Lewistown High School in 1929, Princeton University in 1934 and from Temple University Medical School in 1938. He was later certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He was married to Frances Fiske for 57 years, until her death in 1997. He was World War Two veteran who served as a major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He practiced internal medicine at the Lewistown Hospital, in Lewistown, Pennsylvania – serving the community for 39 years. In Pennsylvania, he was a member of the Miffin-Juniata Medical Society. He served on the Mifflin County Board of Mental Health and the Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging. Andy and Fran became Port Charlotte residents in 1974. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church. He volunteered at the Cultural Center, providing blood pressure readings to local residents, for many years. He is survived by his three children: Judith Parker of Durham, NY, Andrew James Parker, Jr. of Huntington, PA and John Fiske Parker of Lewistown, PA. He is also survived by his sisters; Mary Parker Somers of Port Charlotte, FL, Jane Parker Woods of Arizona and brother, Ralph Smith Parker of Pennsylvania
