Obituary

With saddened hearts, we share the passing of Ada Mae Westberry (Smith), who left us peacefully on April 20, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on February 12, 1937, to Leffie and Beulah Lowe, in Punta Gorda, Florida, Ada was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Ada Mae's remarkable life was defined by her unwavering commitment to her work as a switchboard operator at the Charlotte County Courthouse, where she served diligently for 38 years. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of countless individuals. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her devotion to her family, which she cherished above all else. Ada was a loving mother to her four children: Jimmy (Sandy) Smith, Edna Mae Smith, Harold (Kathy) Smith, and Ann (Jeffrey) Burkhardt. She took great pride in her role as a grandmother to eight grandchildren and a great-grandmother to thirteen great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Esther Russell, Delia Mitchell, Ruth Miles, Mary Jo Rude, Cecil Lowe, Lum Lowe, Ben Lowe, and Pete Lowe. Her family finds solace in knowing she has reunited with them, along with her great-grandson, Trent Whidden.

In honoring her life, a graveside service will take place on April 24, 2026, at 11:30 am at Indian Springs Cemetery, 9500 Indian Springs Road, Punta Gorda, FL.
