Samuel Louis Williams, M.D., 58, of Port Charlotte passed away June 20, 2013. He was the son of Samuel C. and Patricia A. (Brandenburg) Williams, born January 26, 1955 in Canton, OH. He went to Capital University on a football/academic scholarship, graduating in 1977. Sam went on to earn his medical degree from Medical College of Ohio in 1981, and began his medical career in Columbus, Ohio. He came to this area in 1986 from Columbus and was an emergency room doctor at Charlotte Regional Medical Center for 6 years. He became a partner in Gulfcoast Emergency Physicians in 1992. This emergency medical group was the anchor of Fawcett Memorial Hospital's emergency department for 24 years. Sam valued his relationships with family and friends. His warm and generous spirit has touched many people through the years. People came away from talking with Sam with laughs and many teachable moments. Sam will be greatly missed by his wife of 27 years, Beth; daughter, Kelsey Williams of Orlando; son, Sammy Williams of Tallahassee, FL; mother, Patricia; brother, Jeff ( Sharon) Williams; sisters, Lori (Tim) McCort and Susie (Marco) Strong; 6 nieces, 1 nephew, 2 great-nieces, and 1 great-nephew. A private celebration of life was held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 1144 Veronica St, Port Charlotte, FL 33952; or Time Out Respite Care, 24246 Harborview Rd, Port Charlotte, FL 33980. Special thanks goes to the Charlotte County Fire/EMS and Fawcett Memorial Hospital Emergency Dept. who provided support, love, and meals for Sam and his family throughout his illness. Special thanks, also, goes to TideWell Hospice; nurses Pam Joint, Sheryl Sinico, Denise Figueredo, and the rest of the staff for taking such good care of Sam.
