Mary M. Westlake

September 14, 1934 — January 12, 2024

Mary Margaret Bernadette Westlake was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world comfortably and surrounded by love on January 12, 2024 at the age of 89.


Mary was born to John and Mary Anne McSharry on September 14, 1934. After graduating from Dobbs Ferry High School in Dobbs Ferry, New York, Mary attended and graduated from Berkley Secretarial College in New York City. She worked in White Plains, NY where she met and married her husband, Donald R. Westlake. Together they celebrated sixty nine anniversaries and had 7 children.


Mary spent many years volunteering and attending Elizabeth Anne Seaton Church in Shrub Oak, NY, working with the Yorktown Heights, NY Garden Club and mastering the game of Bridge. She was also very active with Boy Scout Troop 164 with her sons. In the early 1980’s they moved to Copake, NY where she worked at her husband’s sporting good shop and became a very involved member of the Crayville, NY Gun Club. Mary was a dedicated member of the Fraternal Order of Police Woman’s Auxiliary in Port Charlotte, Florida where they retired.


Mary is survived by her husband Donald R. Westlake, sister Eileen Chaufournier, her children Bobby, Debby, Donald, Colleen, John, Emmy and predeceased by eldest son William. Mary also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. 


Dance with the angels sweet Mary, until we meet again.


The funeral will be a private ceremony with only close family members attending. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Tidewell Hospice 3550 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota FL. 34239.
