James "Jimmy" Whidden, Jr., 75, of Salter Path, NC, formerly of Charlotte Harbor, passed away January 9 , 2009. Jimmy was a fourth generation native of Charlotte Harbor, born December 27, 1933, the son of James Edward and Josephine Taylor Whidden. He served in the US Navy and was a commercial fisherman who fished the Florida Keys and Charlotte Harbor. He moved to Salter Path, NC in 1993 and built Whidden Landing Restaurant. Jimmy will be greatly missed by his wife, Janice M. Whidden; sons, James E (Melissa) Whidden, III of Colorado Springs, CO, Danny L (Julie) Whidden of Port Charlotte, and Jeffrey (Diane) Young of Port Charlotte; step-son, Robert Sawyer; sister, Joanne Garner of Arcadia; brother, Robert Whidden of Port Charlotte; grandchildren, James E Whidden, IV, Sarah Whidden, Heather Whidden, Crystal Whidden, Dustin Whidden, and Aaron Whidden; great-grandchild, Kaylie Whidden and cousin Mickey Pender. The family will receive friends 5:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday, January 13 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. The service in celebration of Jimmy's life will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday at the Funeral Home with burial following at Charlotte Harbor Cemetery.
