Eugene Loral Dean Johnston, 86, of Port Charlotte passed away October 16, 2008 at his home surround by his family after a short illness. He was born February 22, 1922 in Plymouth, Ohio. Eugene served in the Army Air Corp during WWII and was stationed at Page Field in Fort Myers, FL, after his service he and his wife moved to Shelby, Ohio to raise their family. He retired from Ohio Seamless Tube and moved to Port Charlotte to enjoy life in the sunshine. Eugene was a member of the Gulf Cove United Methodist Church. He enjoyed many passions in his life including building homes, flying airplanes and coaching little league teams. He was an avid volunteer for many community based organizations. Eugene will be greatly missed by his sons Dean Allen (Jane) Johnston of Santa Barbara, CA and Richard Searl (Jackie) Johnston of Crestline, Ohio; daughter, Deborah Kay (Jerry) Pittenger of Powell, Ohio; grandchildren, Matt Johnston of Oxnard, CA, Abi Pittenger of Delaware, Ohio, Shawna Ulicne of Powell, Ohio, Jason Johnston of Santa Barbara, CA, Frances Case of Surprise, AZ, Timothy Johnston of Cincinnati, Ohio, Nicole Johnston of Crestline, Ohio and Richard Johnston of Crestline, Ohio and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Delores Marie Johnston, two brothers and two sisters. A memorial service will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Encore Park Recreation Center, 3737 El Jobean Rd, Port Charlotte.
